You’ve probably tried every diet and exercise programme out there, but for some reason you just haven’t been able to shift the weight.  Some of you may have even tried personal training, diet shakes, supplements, or even talked to your GP and still had no luck.  Doesn’t sound fair at all, does it?  Perhaps it’s time to work with a professional who really knows how to help you get to the root cause of your eating weaknesses so that you can actually recognise and change those unhealthy habits that are keeping you stuck: a Hypnotherapist.

You might be highly sceptical which is completely understandable.  The media is to blame for giving out an inaccurate portrayal of what a hypnotherapist can do.  Here’s the real truth - you absolutely will not cluck like a chicken or turn into some crazy zombie!  In hypnotherapy, you simply tell yourself exactly how you’d like to be, whether it’s to lose weight, give up smoking, tackle your fears, or feel confident within yourself.

Even though there isn’t a lot of research around at the moment, early studies have shown that people who have used hypnotherapy have lost more than double the weight compared to those who’ve dieted on their own. A research study in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis discovered that a group of women who had hypnosis therapy not only lost weight, but they improved their overall eating habits, and bodily image, too. In the meantime, a meta-analysis done by researchers has found that hypnosis can help in regulating amino acids; these are important compounds that control how full and hungry you feel.

How does it work?

The Hypnosis Slimming method combines modern-day clinical hypnosis, Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and mind-changing to successfully reprogram your own subconscious mind in the safest and most natural way, allowing you to reduce yourself down to a size and shape that you’ve always desired. I can’t wave a magic wand I’m afraid, but I can use effective tools and techniques that will definitely help you along the way.  A regular therapy session will look like this: I will do some fact finding during your free initial consultation to discuss your present circumstances, your weight history, previous weight loss and control experiences and your current intentions and goals. I will then formulate a personalised plan to help you achieve your ideal shape and size.

What happens in hypnosis?

When you’re in hypnosis, I will make powerful suggestions to you so that you can replace all your old unwanted behaviour patterns and habits with positive and healthy ones.  All my hypnotic suggestions will be personalised to you and will help you to balance that internal dialogue in your head.

Everybody has a healthy subconscious—this is your intuitive reaction that protects you from danger or helps you to make good decisions in life.   Your inner voice prevents you from solely acting on emotions. Throughout hypnosis, I will simply turn up the volume on your inner wisdom and turn down your overly emotional side. 

Let me explain what this sound like in real life? A good example of a hypnotic suggestion would be: “You will choose fresh fruit. You will acknowledge that sugary treats are just too acidic for you and that fresh fruit will make you feel more nourished and satisfied.”

Hypnosis isn’t teaching you to never have a craving again, but it’s about training your brain to hear, “Gosh, I’d really like a biscuit,” and then follow it with, “No, perhaps I don’t really want it, it’s not good for me.” It’s about understanding that whilst you might feel like you want to do something, you don’t need to act out on your impulses.

No, you won’t be knocked out completely

Let me assure you that whilst under hypnosis you can hear absolutely everything; you’re always in full control.  It’s sort of like falling asleep whilst watching TV- you’re vaguely aware of the hum but you’re not really tuned in to any of the dialogues.  It’s exactly like how you’re able to pick out a genuine, distressing scream amongst a group of kids crying. Your own subconscious mind overrides all the blur in the background.

Another thing you might be worried about is a perverse hypnotherapist programming your mind to do bizarre things.  You don’t need to be concerned though because your subconscious mind will never turn itself off.  If a hypnotherapist unintentionally were to offer you a suggestion that doesn’t fit in with your beliefs or morals, then your subconscious will reject it and immediately bring you out of hypnosis.

How many sessions do I need?

The full hypnosis slimming process usually requires 4 to 10 sessions and depends on your personal goals and circumstances. Each session involves a hypnosis induction to put you into a trance like state, a deepening process so that I can access and communicate with your subconscious mind, offer particular suggestions relevant to your own circumstances to allow the changes that need to be made, and a process of awakening so that I can bring you out of trance. During each session, we will focus on achieving these key milestones:

  • Understand and acknowledge your personal circumstances.
  • Accept that you must change for change to actually happen.
  • Work on emotional attachments to food, drink and exercise.
  • Recognise your existing behaviours, habits, belief system, addictions and cravings.
  • Alter your current behaviours, habits, beliefs as well as cravings for more empowering alternatives.
  • Make any changes effortless and long lasting.
  • Reward all the positive changes you make through confidence and self-esteem.
  • Make sure that you’re completely happy and content with the NEW you.

Free After Care

Hypnosis is very effective; it can allow changes to happen at the subconscious level. Nevertheless, anyone can experience set-backs and relapse regardless of how dedicated they are.  This is why I’ll offer top-up sessions for free to anybody who completes a full 10 session course. This means you can be completely assured that my interest is totally in alignment with your personal goals – lifelong change, and not just a quick fix.

Does it work for everyone?

A Stanford study has discovered that approximately a quarter of people cannot be hypnotized because of their brain wiring. Also, if you don’t really have the desire to lose weight—for instance, you’re only thinking about this option because your partner has suggested it—hypnosis will not work either.

And, hypnotherapy isn’t right for people with a serious mental health disorder like psychosis or schizophrenia. “Going into a deep trance could potentially trigger an episode, so I don’t work with people with this type of disorder unless I get the consent from a medical professional to do so.
